This morning I managed to drag myself out of bed on a lovely Saturday morning... lovely to sleep, that is. Anyway, went over to my buddy Kevin's place for some squash. Another good buddy, Marcus was there too. Had a few rounds just for fun.
I've only ever played it once before this in my life. Now I remember why! :) But it's ok, it's more of enjoying the company that the game itself.
Anyway, after the game I was coming home. As I was coming home, I saw this guy with only one leg hobbling along on crutches. I wasn't able to stop in time, so I kept on going. Then I felt that I should just make a u-turn, go back and see if I could help him. Maybe give him a lift somewhere.
So I turned around, pretty big u-turn. When I came to the spot, he was waiting. Perhaps for a taxi, I thought. I stopped next to him, asked him where he was going. He gave me a proud look and didn't answer. I asked him again. He looked into my car, and said he's waiting for a taxi. I asked him where he was going again, telling him I might be able to give him a lift. With another proud look, he said chinatown. Chinatown is a good 20kilometers from where we were. He looked away proudly as if to say he didn't want a lift. so anyway, I felt he didn't really want to get in, and I drove off.
It was quite a strange experience for me. No.1, in KL, you don't usually offer rides to strangers. So I thought it would be an appreciated gesture. But it wasn't... strange. And No.2, that he was so proud was another strange thing.
But as I digested it, perhaps one thing I could learn form this is...
Pride causes us to be blinded to Grace... yup, when you're proud, you don't see grace.
So a reminder to me, don't be proud. See grace in everything.
