Success Inspires

I shared a video previously on Rick and Dick. Here's another one.

Team Hoyt inspired me. Thanks to my wife who first pointed it out to me on youtube. Little did she know this was one of the things that would inspire me to finally run my marathon.

Their story inspires many people. So when you conquer your challenges, it helps others conquers theirs. Your success not only benefits you, it also benefits others. Your success inspires others!

So if you've got success stories, challenges you've conquered, dreams you've reached or anything extraordinary, share it with me at ididit.at@gmail.com. TRUE stories please... and I'll be willing to share selected ones :)

How it All Started

How did I get started to run a marathon? I guess for a few years I've been thinking about it. I've admired the fact that people could do it. I always told myself, "One day, I'll run a marathon". It always looked impossible. Maybe that's why I put it off. I hid it at the back of my mind. Forgotten.

I never really was a runner. Not even in my school days. Used to play soccer a bit. I wasn't exactly full of stamina since I came out to work. Being 31, I was just barely keeping in shape. I do 5 minutes of running in the gym to warm up. That's all the running I did. Then I'd do a little bit of work on the weight machines just to keep in some shape. 2 times a week or maybe 3, depending on how my schedule was. About an hour each time.

Somehow, about September this year, the Singapore Marathon was advertised. The thoughts started to surface. Maybe I should do it. Maybe I should try. Maybe I'll run the 10 kilometer race. Not the full marathon. I think I might be able to manage that.

But I know I was selling myself short. So I thought, what about the half marathon? Hmm... sounds really daunting, 21 kilometers of running? Wow, I've never even run more than 3-4 kilometers at a go. That would be more than enough challenge for someone in my state of fitness.

But somehow I knew that I wouldn't be satisfied. I would have not achieved my dream. I needed to challenge myself. I needed to face my challenge. So I signed up for the 42 kilometers. No turning back. It was 42 kilometers or nothing.
That's why I signed up... and that was the start of getting myself ready to run...

Rick and Dick Hoyt

We all need inspiration at some time or other... This video was one of the most inspirational videos I've seen.
This is one of the things that inspired me to do what I did... run my first marathon.

Running the dream

If you look at the small pic I've posted. It'll show you a person which has gone through 42.195 kilometers of running. Pain and tiredness at both mental and physical levels are etched into that face... my face. But I crossed the finish line.
Did I think I could do it? Two and half months before I crossed the finish line, I would have thought no. As a matter of fact 3 weeks from the marathon, I would have still said no. I wanted to give up. But somehow, I pressed on. And I did finish. In the coming posts I'll share more of my experiences... and the lessons I learnt.

The start...

Well, I've been telling myself that I'm going to start blogging... and now I FINALLY am. The reasons and encouragements to start blogging have been growing. I guess now is as good a time as any to start.

I'm hoping to share some of my humble experiences to hopefully inspire you, as I learn to face more challenges. Life is full of them. How we face them defines us. I guess in the end, we all want to live a full life. Doing what we were called to do and achieving what we were meant to achieve.

So I'm going to share some things I hope will benefit us all. Till my next post!
